Hunting season started on Saturday and my dog got his first squirrel. Not sure of the rules for dogs but they must allow them multiple tags because he's still been hunting. You'd think he'd be able to take it easy since he got one on opening day, but no.

Actually, it was a group effort, so maybe he thinks it doesn't count for him - he got the little bastard off the tree (it was a young one), then the puppy came and struck like a cobra, twice, breaking its back (it was terrible, both dogs are monsters), and then the puppy's roommate had to put the poor furry little mammal out of its misery. The puppy was part of the funeral procession (on a shovel to the poo bucket), but my dog didn't even attend the funeral.

It was his first act as a county resident. We'd just gotten home after (finally) getting his dog license. I think he feels more confident now and wants to start helping with the puppy's war on invasive species. The puppy has always been a fierce foe of invasive species (conveniently forgetting that he himself is a representative of an invasive species) but heretofore my dog has only been ambivalent. (Creeping bellflower, eastern gray squirrels, cats, turfgrass, earthworms, and more - the puppy has worked hard to eradicate them all these years.)

Saturday night my dog had a woofwoof dream, you know: woofwoofwoofwoof, woofwoofwoofwoof - funny, because he doesn't bark much at all when he's awake.
