Oh. We're in Reconstruction now. The book has gotten considerably more racist. I had not remembered at all that the reason Rhett was in jail was because he murdered an uppity nigger who "insulted" a white lady. Gross.

The use of the word "nigger" has gone up considerably. During the war, the first time Scarlett called Prissy a nigger, she felt bad, knew that her mother wouldn't approve - they knew it was an offensive word then. But after the war, when everything gets turned upside down, propriety goes to the birds and, yeah, they're pretty fucking racist. So, uh, we'll see how things go, but it turns out the movie is just as racist as the book. Yikes.

Also, the sexual innuendo is shocking! Ashley was going to "take" Scarlett right there in the mud! Etc.

Looking like the Cubs will get their 100th win tonight. I read some guy's dumb article today about how it's actually a bad thing for them to get 100 wins. Dude - everyone's gotta be a critic.

I'm going to bonsai some of my peppers, did I tell you? For the winter. Getting stuff ready for it. Will definitely do one of the Chinese 5 colors, the hinkelhatz, and possibly the purple jalapeno. And maybe more.
