There's something that's been happening - I don't know, maybe it happens every election year and I've just never noticed it before - but suddenly people are not only interested in politics and things going on around the world but are also discussing these things with each other - and discussing things in a civil manner, politely and interestedly and with an apparent genuine desire to share information, to learn and to teach.

True, a discussion with my dad a few weeks ago degenerated into him thinking that we were accusing him of being responsible for a certain spree of serial killings in Mexico, but that's an exception. All other discussions I've participated in have been intelligent and rational and respectful.

(We weren't accusing him of being a serial killer. We were just talking about oil and corporations and money and some of the things the U.S./U.S. corporations are doing in the world. And somehow all of a sudden he was saying, "Fine, all right, I killed all of those people." It was kind of hilarious.)

But it seems like people really want to know what's been going on, if they've been lied to or misled, how that could happen, and if there's a bigger picture that we need to be seeing.

It's a good thing, etc.

And today is the deadline to file your taxes.

What is the price of freedom? And what is freedom?
