Seen one shooting star, seen them all
Sunday, November 18, 2001 - 15:41

Last night Mr. Pooh and I drove up the nearby mountain to look at the meteor shower. It was foggy down where we live, and it's fairly bright, so we wouldn't have been able to see anything even if it had been clear.

Well.

Everyone and their mother had the same idea as us. We left around midnight and got to where we wanted to be about 12:30. It was on a pretty narrow windy (windey, not windy? Or perhaps I ought to say winding. Maybe windy isn't a word.) road, far off the main road. And more and more cars came roaring in after us, headlights ablaze.

Some drunk frat boy bastards (I hate drunk frat boy bastards) decided everyone wanted to listen to Pink Floyd pulsing out of their caved-in distorting speakers.

There was a group of men singing songs farther up the road. They probably killed themselves afterwards, like the Hale Bop people.

We decided to leave after an hour or so. There were still lines of cars driving up this road, parking everyone in. I hate this place sometimes.

But the meteor shower was neat. And it was nice to be up above the city in the darkness. I'd almost forgotten what the sky looked like.
