We had this huge windstorm all weekend, three days long, this bastard wind that would not stop blowing. It finally stopped today, or slowed down a bit. Trees fell. Looking at the trees that are still standing in our town, I wonder how any of them manage to not ruin all of our cars, they're so crackly and craggy and rickety and dry, these rickety old trees cracking and creaking in the slightest breeze. Trees are flexible, until they're not.

This bastard wind ruined everyone's lawn parties, blew up everyone's skirts, flipped around everyone's hair, knocked over everyone's chairs, blew dust in everyone's eyes, spoiled everyone's weekend - a nice weekend, it would have been, but for that bastard wind.

The river is rapid and rising and rushing and trees - entire trees - are bobbing along, running into the bridge supports, landing high on the banks. The water is brown and the kayakers have stopped kayaking on the fake wave, finally - they were out there all winter in the freezing cold, they were out there last spring during the melt, dodging the sticks, dodging the kindling - but now, finally, they've gone home, while these trees launch downstream like torpedoes.

The rain came last night while I was at a party with people I wish I were friends with but instead am a former teacher of. Graduation party, drinks and shishkebabs, I was grazing on all the food until the cake, which stopped my stomach from accepting anything else. We drank Pimm's and mint juleps.

Today I decided, walking home next to the river, to get a gray cat and name it Gray Cat. (Obviously that would be its first name - obviously if it's a girl its middle and last names will be the same as mine.)

I'm learning new shit about life all the time. I'm so behind.
